A simple introduction to the elemental analyzer

Elemental analyzers are indispensable analytical tools for chemical composition analysis. They are used in academia and industry and can be used for the analysis of pure substances or mixtures in order to ascertain the weight percentage of the elements they contain.

The principle of quantitative analysis is to convert the material to be analyzed in the presence of an oxidation catalyst such as copper oxide to complete combustion using oxygen, to convert it into oxides of carbon dioxide, water, nitrogen and nitrogen; and to reduce nitrogen oxides to nitrogen by using copper. The analysis method of this instrument is to use vertical combustion tubes. The substances to be analyzed are contained in a tin metal container and placed on an automatic sample feeder. Using the principle of gravity, a combustion tube of about 1150° C. is periodically added, and the combustion tube is used under the combustion of tin. The sample combustion temperature is as high as 1800°C to promote the complete combustion of the sample. After the copper reduction treatment, the natural N2, CO2, and H2O mixture is separated by a special separation tube, and the content can be determined using a thermal conductivity detector (TCD). The data processor calculates the weight percentage of carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen automatically.
