The Chery Jaguar Land Rover plant in Changshu currently has an annual production capacity of 130,000 vehicles and a supporting engine factory. After the implementation of this engine expansion project, it will have the ability to produce a three-cylinder engine. According to the plan, Jaguar Land Rover will launch a 1.5L inline three-cylinder, 3.0L inline six-cylinder and other multiple displacement Ingenium series engines. The new 1.5T three-cylinder engine will use a modular design with a displacement of 0.5L per cylinder, using cylinder units of the same diameter, same stroke, and the same cylinder spacing.
Small displacement turbocharged engines are already widely used in luxury brand compact and mid-size cars. The BMW mid-size sedan 3 Series and the compact SUV X1 are already equipped with 1.5T engines; while Mercedes-Benz uses 1.6T engines on Class A, B, C and CLA models. In the future, the Jaguar midsize sedan XE is expected to be equipped with this new three-cylinder engine.
In addition to the mid-size car equipped with this engine, there will be more compact models. According to the plan, Jaguar Land Rover is expected to launch compact car XD and compact SUV models in China, both of which are expected to be equipped with a new 1.5T engine. Jaguar Land Rover Group Technical Director Nick Rogers said that with the introduction and gradual application of new technologies such as Ingenium series engines and Transcend gearboxes, Jaguar Land Rover models will have lower carbon emissions in the future, and new technologies will help Jaguar Land Rover by 2020. Further reduce carbon emissions by about 25%.
