Gat plans to set up a gearbox plant in Mexico in 2014


Nissan’s subsidiary component subsidiary, Gatco Co., Ltd. recently announced that it will spend USD 220 million to build a new auto parts manufacturing plant in Mexico.

The new plant will be Gatto's second plant in Mexico. It is expected to be put into operation in the summer of 2014. Its target production capacity is to produce 400,000 automatic transmissions per year. It will start in 2016 at the Daimler Group. Licensed to produce new transmissions for Nissan and Infiniti branded models.

Gatco Mexico was established in 2003 and began producing CVTs in 2005. In 2012, Gatto produced a total of 3.8 million gearboxes. With the launch of a new plant in Mexico, the company's total capacity in Mexico will be expanded to 1.7 million gearboxes/year in 2016.

Established in 1996, Gatco Co., Ltd. is headquartered in Shizuoka, Japan. It is mainly engaged in gearbox production. Its products include automatic transmissions, automatic continuously variable transmissions, manual gearboxes, and new-type continuously variable transmissions. In June 1999, Nissan Motor's AT and CVT divisions set up their own subsidiaries, and in October of the same year they merged with Gatco.
